Bring on the Holidays!

By Kate Barker

It’s the season of joy and merriment. From the brightly lit streets downtown to the beginning of winter sports like skating and skiing, this season is a special time of the year. While many of the holiday celebrations have come and gone, there are still many ways to celebrate the season right here in the Bow Valley. Here are some of our favourites.

1) Spread Holiday Cheer

There are many charities doing fantastic work during the holidays and all year long. Your support would go a long way in making someone else’s Christmas merry and bright! The Christmas Spirit Campaign is still accepting donations, and they help people right here at home. The Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley does a lot for the environment and all who live in it. From educational programs like WildSmart to their tool lending library, this organization is a pillar in the community. The Bow Valley SPCA takes care of the furry residents of the Bow Valley, and it was the first no cage, no kill adoption facility in the country. Send some holiday cheer to our fuzzy family members with a donation!

2) Spend Time with Loved Ones

Whether it’s a gaggle of friends, chosen family, or you actually want to spend time with your in-laws, there are plenty of fun activities to make the most of the season. Try skating on one of the maintained rinks in town, or go for a stroll down main street and warm up with a hot chocolate from your favourite café. This is also the season for sledding! If you have young ones – or you’re just young at heart – check out the hill at Eagle Terrace or the Fairmont Banff Springs for some old-fashioned fun!

3) Bring in the New Year

It’s out with the old, and in with the new! Banff will bring in the new year with an all-ages celebration at Central Park from 6-midnight. There will be live music, Indigenous dance, hot chocolate, marshmallows, and midnight pyrotechnics. If the weather is terrible, a modified event will take place at The Fenlands. In Canmore, go to the Canmore Recreation Centre from 5-8 pm for all-ages events including fireside music, a DJ dance party, ice skating, crafts, food vendors, and a pyrotechnics show at 8 pm. Head down to Millennium Park for the traditional fireworks display at midnight!

From all of us here at Mountain Real Estate, we wish you a Happy New Year!
